LIPI ICIAR – UNU EHS RESEARCH SCHOOL

“THE SCHOOL OF THOUGHTS ON ENVIRONMENT AND HUMAN SECURITY
IN TROPICAL MARITIME AND EMERGING ECONOMY NATIONS”

1. INTRODUCTION

LIPI and UNU EHS had built its Common Platform under the Letter of Intent between the Indonesian Institute of Sciences and The United Nations University, Institute of Environment and Human Security, signed on October 29 2015. Entering the end of TWINSEA project towards the spin-off phase of a solid and substantial collaboration between LIPI and UNU EHS in the area of environment and human security, both institutions are now aiming at establishing a so-called ‘Research School’. In the first phase of the TWINSEA program between UNU EHS and LIPI, there are numbers of significant outputs related to the capacity strengthening of science, in form of scientific publications, researchers exchanges, workshops and growing network. At the end of the program, both institutions involved private sectors for more innovative collaborations that integrate and link science community with private sectors. Departing from lessons learnt from the 4 years of TWINSEA network and collaboration with wide number of stakeholders, institutions, and particularly scientists and experts, LIPI and UNU EHS foresee future key questions to be addressed through the establishment of the joint Research School.

7. OUTCOME: Knowledge – School of Thoughts
Foreseeable impacts are identified from the research school programs and exposures. As a school of thought, the research school aims strongly at addressing the contemporary issues of environment and human securities with distinct and formidable understanding on tropical maritime particularly in emerging economy countries. As the reason of being, or rasion d’etre, the research school are to meet these particularities, being channeled to making stronger evident or science-based policies, of which may not necessarily be the case in several growing or emerging economic countries to meet global demands and changes.
